The Chaudière-Appalaches region faces the city of Québec and runs along the St. Lawrence River for over 200 km (124 mi). The 300 years of history having shaped the region are proudly represented through the richness of its heritage and culture. Several ancestral buildings have been remarkably well preserved and some of Quebec’s most beautiful villages are found here. Whether you decide to take a cruise on the St. Lawrence, get away in your car, on your bike, motorcycle or snowmobile, or perhaps treat yourself to a day of alpine skiing on the snowy slopes or to a snowshoeing outing on the hiking trails, you’ll discover an authentic and welcoming region, no matter the season. Culture is omnipresent in museums, each one of them more original than the next, and agritourism is another great way to discover Chaudière-Appalaches, also known as the kingdom of sugar shacks! For an unusual experience, several tours of quarries and industrial sites are offered in the area surrounding Thetford Mines, also known as the “Asbestos Capital of the World” and the “City of White Gold.” A stop in Grosse-Île, which was a quarantine station from 1830 to 1850, makes for a unique way to travel through time and experience History.
