Biosphère, Environment Museum
An architectural symbol of Montréal since the Expo of 1967, the Biosphère is a unique and spectacular structure in the middle of Parc Jean-Drapeau on Sainte-Hélène Island. In fun, stimulating settings, the Biosphère offers exhibits and guided activities that will help visitors better understand major environmental issues and learn how to find solutions to become an eco-citizen on a daily basis. Climate change, water, biodiversity, responsible consumption and sustainable development are some of the topics addressed. As the centrepiece of an urban oasis, the Biosphère offers an unrestricted view of downtown Montréal and the St. Lawrence River. The only environment museum in North America, this unique structure uses a number of green technologies: wind turbines, green roof systems, a geothermal system, wastewater treatment wetlands and solar panels.
