Come tour the
Première-Chute Generating Station, which served as a model for the hydroelectric stations in James Bay. It has proudly stood over the Ottawa River bed since 1968. And it’s the only station in Abitibi-Témiscamingue that welcomes visitors! Discover its unique design, the conversion of 25 cycles into 60 and how electricity is supplied to a rural region. Open from June 24 to August 25; tours begin at 10 a.m., 12 p.m., 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. Commented tours offered year-round. Reservations always required. Admission is free. Visitors 18 years old and up must show official I.D. to be able to go on the tour. Flat, closed shoes required. Note: those with pacemakers cannot tour generating stations. Average length of the tour: 90 minutes.
