The Border Route (Route des Frontières)
This scenic route is called the Border Route (Route des Frontières) because it runs along the borders of Quebec, New Brunswick and Maine. This area of the Bas-Saint-Laurent region is home to many symbols that remind us of its political and geographical significance: border crossings, border markers, an International Bridge as well as the natural border created by the Saint-François River. Amazing stories remain in the collective imagination of the region's inhabitants: sharing the territory between Canada and the U.S., successive waves of contrabanding alcohol during Prohibition and tobacco in the 80's and 90's. Culture and Heritage Tours along the Border Route, such as the Parc de la Frontière, make it even easier to discover panoramic , natural, historic and recreational treasures of this agricultural, forest and mining region. A stay of wonderful memories. A part of the country where nature delights and people love to celebrate.
