At the beginning of January, when the ice starts to set on Quebec's numerous rivers and lakes, little shacks start to pop up on the frozen surface; a sign that ice fishing season has begun! This activity dates back to the Amerindians and is still practised today simply as a way to enjoy winter. Quebec is renowned for ice-fishing: tommy cod fishing in Saint-Anne-de-la-Pérade is famous worldwide. The Saguenay, one of North-America’s longest and most beautiful fjords, fills visitors with wonder! It is also possible to go ice-fishing and enjoy the warm comfort of a cottage in several of the parks belonging to the Sépaq network (Réseau Sépaq).
