I am curious by nature and enjoy learning all sorts of things about subjects that I know less than well. War was certainly one subject I knew next to nothing about, so I really enjoyed my visit to the Canadian War Museum in the Gatineau-Ottawa region. War is a delicate subject, but the Museum deals with it in a very tactful way. You can learn about Canada's military history and other aspects of war throughout the world, through temporary exhibitions.
A Unique Building Full of Secrets!
Anyone interested in architecture will be impressed by all the construction features of the building that houses the Canadian War Museum! The materials were chosen with care to be as energy efficient as possible, but what impressed me the most was certainly its green roof, one of the most imposing in North America, which reminded me of the camouflage of war.
Memorial Hall is a quiet public space for rest and reflection that contains only one artifact: the headstone of the Unknown Soldier who fell in the First World War. I found the place very moving and it is interesting to know that on November 11 (Remembrance Day) at 11 a.m., sunlight shines directly on the headstone.
Permanent Exhibitions that Should Not Be Missed
Several galleries display various historical objects and documents from the battles that shaped Canada, and from the country's contributions to the world's great conflicts as well as to maintaining peace.

But for me, the LeBreton Gallery was certainly the most important part of my visit to the Museum! In it you will find an imposing collection of military hardware from the 18th century to our day. You can admire tanks, artillery pieces and a number of military vehicles, as well as a very impressive Voodoo fighter plane! None of these are replicas, so, for me, it was a truly amazing visit, and the perfect outing to impress your teens!
