A Honey of a Time

This column brings you something sweet to do when summer comes. Just to let you know: we'll be taking a ferry gently pushed by the breeze, then a healthy walk in the Parc national d’Oka, and we'll finish with a trip down memory lane at the Saint-Eustache Drive-In.

In short, you'll have honey of a time this summer!

A light heart

I'm a dreamer; for me, taking the ferry is something of an event. For ten minutes between Hudson and Oka, time stands still. It's the stuff of romance, it makes you want to live, and, as a bonus, it's very pretty. But, to put it plainly, it is crowded. So get there early!

On the other side of romance, a lovely stroll awaits you at the Parc national d’Oka, the kind that gets you talking about life and enjoying the forest air. Because although the Calvaire d'Oka trail refers to the Way of the Cross laid out by the Sulpicians, there is nothing torturous for the Sunday stroller. At the top, there is a great view of the Lac des Deux Montagnes and the Adirondacks way off in the distance. For a bit of a challenge, you can also wander along the 13.8 km of La Sauvagine, an intermediary trail, or the 6.5 km of the Sommet, ranked as difficult. You have the entire day for your stroll.

A time for nostalgia

Indispensable for a great evening at a drive-in theatre.

The best is yet to come, after the sun goes down. You guessed it, the Saint-Eustache Drive-In, a heritage jewel in my opinion, a little like the Madrid was in my eyes. The ideal place to dust off your camping chair and sit yourself down with an Orange Crush in hand. I would even say it's vintage, there are just so many HD 3D movie screens popping up so quickly, and drive-ins are fighting for survival. And for less than the price of one ticket to a movie theatre, you get a double program and a warm summer night. Popcorn!

Just the type of day I love. Full of tasty little moments to share, nostalgia, sunscreen, gentle simplicity. Enjoy the summer!s
