Rafting trip with Eau Vive
 |
Usually, when you have a romantic rendezvous with someone you hardly know, you go to a restaurant, to see a movie, out for a drink… Not in my case. All it took was a phone call and a lot of charm for me to find myself sitting in a raft, paddle in hand, adrenaline pumping. What have I gotten myself into? What have I gotten myself into!
Just an ordinary day in the Laurentians with the Eau Vive team, in the tumultuous world of the Rouge River.
What I'd gotten myself into
As agitated as the rapids, I kept tapping my foot in the boat before departure. In short, I looked as natural and relaxed as a teenager in a romper… Safety instructions somewhere in my head, we got going, my potential suitor at my side. Such wonderful naiveté.
The first rapids went by… very quickly! In next to no time, we were attacking the bubbling waters of the Sept Soeurs (seven sisters), a section of this river known as one of the best for having fun rafting in Québec. The guide was very reassuring and gave instructions in real time, quickly understanding that our group was of the "let's make the most of this trip" variety.

So we took off towards some gigantic waves as though there was no tomorrow. We capsized… on purpose. I fell into the water, got into a new boat that was passing by, fell back into the water. I felt like I was in a spin washer, I panicked a little, but I never lost my paddle… just to brag a bit.
Still alive
After two amazing descents and the lunch in between that almost went overboard on the second trip, it was finally time for supper. We laughed at our faces in the photos; we had a thousand stories; we had survived.
For the less adventurous who are reading this and going "that's not for me!" I'd like to point out that the outings are planned according to each group's recklessness and skill. Don't confuse the two. Therefore, you can choose to get less wet… You could also choose to combine everything with kayaking, paintball, make only one descent or stay in one spot the whole weekend!
And just in case you're wondering, the suitor in question and I are still in the same boat, we also survived.
