Life Like a Pirate Thanks to Théâtre en rivière

Théâtre en rivière de l’Auberge Le Baluchon
My family and I love pirate stories and were quite pleased to find ourselves at the heart of a fantastic adventure thanks to the show Si Pirate, presented at Auberge Le Baluchon’s Théâtre en rivière. It was truly quite pleasant to see this entertaining outdoor show; comfortably seated in a rabaska canoe, the spectators move from one décor to the next, following the adventures of Si Pirate as he looks for his treasure!

Prepare to Board!

The day was a magnificent one for an outing on the river. But not just any outing… an excursion in the company of pirates! The kids were all wound up and I was pretty excited myself! Presented all summer long at the site of Auberge Le Baluchon, the Si Pirate show truly won me over. The story is entertaining and original, the décors fit in perfectly with the natural surroundings at this extremely beautiful site, the costumes are magnificent and the team of actors extremely talented.

The adventure starts on the shore of Loup River with a duel between Si Pirate (the main character!) and Augustin Magnan that serves as the framework for the rest of the story. Then, all the spectators climb aboard the rabaska canoes to follow the crew through different décors set up at several places along the river. The team at Théâtre en rivière has succeeded hands down in overcoming the challenge of staging such a show, during which many legends and imaginary characters expose the rich history of the Mauricie region. I particularly enjoyed the passage featuring fairies and the action-packed encounter with a siren in the middle of the river.

A Show for the Whole Family!

I must concede that I am not the best rower out there and I was a bit worried about being able to stay the course for the whole outing. But I quickly realized that there isn’t much to paddling from time to time and listening to the captain’s instructions. It was actually quite pleasant to be part of the crew seeking out Si Pirate’s treasure. The large canoes are very safe, and every passenger is given a life jacket. I was with my boyfriend, children and parents, and the whole family loved the experience. Definitely one of my favourites!

A big thanks to Émilie Gélinas at Auberge Le Baluchon for inviting me to discover this great outing.
