Domaine Sam-Calm
 |
Last spring, I discovered a charming site tucked in the mountains of the Lanaudière region. The Sam-Calm Domaine has many great advantages for a family getaway beyond compare. The friendly owners ensure their guests enjoy a memorable stay while sharing their deep love for horses. This is a great place to enjoy equestrian activities, as well as a ton of other outdoor activities.
Delighted with the Domaine’s Horses and Friendly Owners
I made my way to the Sam Calm Domaine in Rawdon with my two daughters Marie-Pier and Chloé, 12 and 13 years old respectively. Both my girls were excited about going horseback riding for the first time. When we arrived, we were delighted with the site, which is exceptionally beautiful with its hill and lake, as well as its beautiful, large, new home built to reflect the architectural style of a country home. In passing, the whole inn can be rented for groups or large families of 12 or more people, and it’s possible to enjoy dining or meal services at the domain.
Second reason to be delighted, the Domaine’s friendly owners: Guylaine, passionate about horses and Denis, a handyman. After having taken us on a tour of the inn that they built themselves to escape the hubbub of the city, we got ready to head to the stable to begin our introduction to horseback riding for the day. The girls were nervous, but Guylaine reassured them with her calm attitude and good advice. We also met our friends the horses with whom we were paired according to our characters to ensure good chemistry between ourselves and theses lovely creatures, pampered and loved by Guylaine and Denis.
Before Galloping, You Must Trot!

Before hitting the trail, we spent a good hour in the manege so Guylaine could teach us the basics of riding. We learned how to communicate properly with our horses and how to become allies for when the time would come to ride in the woods. In this enclosed space, we got to know our horses, and Guylaine was always nearby to give us advice.
We were finally ready! Indian file, we headed to the trail that would take us to the mountain, in beautiful, generous nature settings. The spring landscape was magnificent, and I can easily imagine how extraordinary the settings must be when the time comes for fall’s colours. An excellent reason to go back and visit the Sam Calm Domaine and say hi to Guylaine and Denis.
A big thanks to Guylaine for her generosity and kindness and to Denis for his warm welcome, great mood and… for helping me fix my flat tire!
