I truly love museums, always have, and I've been sharing my passion for culture with my children since they were very little. Wherever I go, I always make a point of visiting the local museum. This lets me make surprising discoveries about the region's history. Of course, big museums are among my favourites, but I also have a special place in my heart for some little regional ones. |

Canadian Museum of Civilization
Over the past few years, I have returned many times to this fantastic museum in Gatineau that is famous for being the most visited cultural institution in the country. The building's architecture is very impressive, all by itself, but it's the treasures found inside the Museum that make it a must-see attraction. Among all its many riches, I have three favourites: Canada Hall, the Canadian Children's Museum, and the Imax Theatre.

Pointe-à-Callière, Montréal Museum of Archaeology and History
I well remember the first time I visited the Museum. I was really impressed by the multimedia show at the start of the visit and the underground archaeological tour which traced the remains of six centuries of Montréal's history. In fact, it is the only museum in North America that has been built on top of authentic remains. The Museum celebrates its 20th anniversary this year, and many activities have been planned to highlight the event.

Musée de la civilisation
Have fun while you learn! A principle the Québec Museum has understood well and puts into practice brilliantly! I love this museum for its always original room arrangements. Thanks to this beautiful museum, I can take my children to the four corners of the world and learn all sorts of things. The exhibitions are often accompanied by special activities that relate to the theme. For example, right now, you can discover a completely Japanese museum.

Musée québécois de culture populaire
There are a number of museums in Quebec that allow parents to introduce their children to the rudiments and strengths of the culture and I believe that this Trois-Rivières museum excels in this area. The subjects it presents are always interesting and shown in very original ways. The exhibitions are interactive and the children can touch objects and are easily drawn into the game of trying to understand the phenomena of our culture.

Météores à bâbord (Riding with Meteorites), from June 1 to September 23, 2012. |

Musée du Fjord
You absolutely must see this if you travel through Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean region. I really loved my visit to this museum because of the kindness and generosity of the guides, as well as the richness of the exhibitions that help you discover this amazing region. The Museum has recently been completely redone and invites visitors to explore the captivating world of the Saguenay Fjord. Among the new items is a giant aquarium with several species, a multimedia show that takes you on an underwater 3D adventure, and a new permanent exhibition on the history of the community's people.

SPECIAL MENTIONS: |
Musée de la Mer
The Îles de la Madeleine have a fascinating story to tell that I discovered during my visit to the Museum. I was told that the Museum is being completely transformed and that the permanent exhibition Laboureur du Golfe is being presented for the last time. See it, before it's too late!

Musée minéralogique de l’Abitibi-Témiscamingue
You can't stay in Abitibi-Témiscamingue without visiting a mine. The choice of mine becomes easy when you can discover the largest open pit mine in Canada thanks to this fascinating Malartic museum and the Osisko mine. You should also see its interactive exhibition about geology that I personally enjoyed a lot.

Shawinigan Space
I've noticed that Shawinigan Space always has some very original exhibitions. That's the case this summer with the exhibitions TOUT FEU TOUT FLAMME made up of Canada’s most impressive collection of fire-fighting vehicles dating from the mid-19th century, as well as the exhibition Musée du premier ministre Jean Chrétien that lets you admire the many official gifts given to Jean Chrétien from around the world.
