Yurt at Bolton Falls Spa
 |
For many, a moment of relaxation in the fall rhymes with indoor activities and a warm ambience. I personally discovered a new way to relax while taking advantage of the joys of being outside… the Nordic spa. And having fall colours in the background while taking in nature’s invigorating fresh air is the cherry on top. I recently visited the Bolton Falls Spa in the Eastern Townships. The spa is a peaceful place which provides several original ways to relax in enchanting settings.
From the Smoke Sauna to the Eucalyptus Steam Bath
The Nordic spa concept is based on alternating between hot and cold, which invigorates the body and leaves you with a feeling of pure comfort. The Bolton Falls Spa provides its guests several different options for hot and cold. I discovered two unique facilities at the Bolton Falls Spa. The first, the “savusauna,” is a one-of-a-kind sauna in North America. It is a smoke sauna, equipped with a chimney allowing smoke to penetrate into the room while the rocks heat. It leaves a pleasant smell during your time in the sauna. Even if it may be slightly uncomfortable to breathe, only a few minutes are needed to take full advantage of the experience.

My favourite is the ever-pleasant eucalyptus bath, with its high level of air humidity and extraordinary smell which left me completely relaxed. Following a short ten-minute session of heat and humidity, I found the courage to slip into the cold river. Only a few seconds are needed for the beneficial effects of the temperature change to take place. Then, to help my body recuperate from this small “shock,” I relaxed in the outdoor spa while admiring fall’s colours to the sound of the falls which are located nearby. I also could have opted for one of the different massages offered in the yurts located near the river.
My Restaurant Suggestion!
To end my day in beauty, I went to an excellent little restaurant in Eastman, a few minutes from the spa. The Café Bistro Chez Jules has a varied menu that changes every two weeks and an affordable wine menu. The duck confit is particularly delicious!
