Daily passenger service is provided free of charge between the communities of Pakuashipi and Saint-Augustin, which lie on opposite shores of the Saint-Augustin River and are only accessible by water or air. On one side of the river is the Innu settlement of Pakuashipi—meaning “sandy river”—and perched on the hillside across the water on the other side is the village of Saint-Augustin. A wide variety of seabirds, wolffish and whales can be observed from either shore. In winter, snowmobiles can take the ice bridge on the Route Blanche trail to cross the river.
