A movement of solidarity launched by the Union des
producteurs agricoles (UPA) has united Quebecers and farmers,
thanks to the Mangeons
local plus que jamais! app (in French only). This app allows
users to discover Quebec’s regions and producers and to stock up on
fresh, local products. Download it for free on your phone and plan a
tour of local farms this fall. The app is part of a social project
that aims to promote better understanding between consumers and
In addition, a loyalty
program has been added to the application that allows you to
accumulate local “dollars” when you visit participating farms. These
can then be redeemed at the UPA's online store.
From mid-June to mid-September, 16 celebrity ambassadors were paired
with a region of Quebec and visited the farms, sugar shacks,
microbreweries, dairy farms, food shops and other agri-food
businesses in their assigned region. These ambassadors then shared
their experiences on social media to inspire others to follow the
same type of adventure. All of them learned a lot from their
experiences and praised local eating.
Ambassadors included folk
singer-songwriters Mélanie and Stéphanie Boulay, author Kim Thuy,
comedian Philippe Laprise and TV host and producer France
The app, launched in the summer of 2020,
has been improved for its second year. Not only does it allow you
to geolocate participating businesses on a map, but it also offers
themed tours that have been added to enhance the user experience.
You can also use the app to find restaurants that use ingredients
certified by Aliments du Québec. This is a great
opportunity to replace the Open House event that had to be
cancelled due to the pandemic and encourage local restauranteurs.
