La Pulperie de Chicoutimi is an important historic site that has been converted into a regional museum. While it’s no longer the city’s main economic driver, as it was for many years, La Pulperie has a new mission and contributes to community life by showcasing its history, culture and heritage.

A fabulous exhibit

When Quebecers think Chicoutimi, they often think La Fabuleuse Histoire d’un Royaume, a show that has taken to the stage for more than 35 years now! In the exhibit La Fabuleuse Histoire d’un Royaume s’expose!, the production chose to highlight and immortalize some of the work of the hundreds of people who poured their hearts and souls into this show. Go behind the scenes and meet some of the passionate people, both onstage and off, who have been part of this production over the years.

Stunning photographs

From May 13 to September 17, 2023, don’t miss photographer Michel Tremblay’s temporary exhibit Chicoutimi. In the words of this photographer, this exhibit showcases Chicoutimi’s beauty and ugliness through photos that could easily be mistaken for paintings. Through his ability to master the perspective effect and his use of colour, Tremblay uses his signature style to create a misleading effect. Get ready for an eye-opening exhibit that will change your perspective on urban photography.

A local artist who’s made his mark

During your visit, explore Far from naive!, a permanent exhibit highlighting the career of painter Arthur Villeneuve who, without any artistic training, carved out a place for himself on the Quebec art scene. He’s known for having “a raw talent, a personal style and an amazing imagination.” Fun fact: The artist’s house is the centrepiece of the exhibit, featuring some of his paintings, interactive stations, a projection of the sky above the house, and an audio station with excerpts from interviews.
