On June 14, the brand new interpretation centre at the Beauharnois hydroelectric generating station was inaugurated, specifically to enhance visitors’ experience.
The permanent exhibition at the interpretation centre, Beauharnois Generating Station: Exceptional since 1932, presents artifacts and archive photos that show the conception, construction, technology and employees of this historic place. Interesting fact: the architecture of the new interpretation centre blends in with the Art deco style of the station’s existing buildings. The observation pathway is sure to impress visitors with the magnificent view of the station, the St. Lawrence and Lac Saint-Louis.
The exhibition marvellously completes the guided tour of the inside of the station, where you’ll get a plunging view of the 36 generating units that provide more than 7% of the electricity produced by Hydro-Québec. You’ll also hear the noise of the units pushed by the force of the water – and that’s when you’ll realize that right above your head, electricity is being created. An unforgettable experience!
Outside there are two turbine wheels and a new picnic area.
The Electrium is celebrating 25 years: 25 years spent sharing the passion of electricity in all its forms with over 550,000 visitors! 25 years spent introducing youngsters to science! 25 years spent making your hair stand on end!
This summer, in addition to fascinating interactive guided tours, Electrium hosts intro to science workshops every Monday. Designed for children over 6 years of age, the workshops explore a variety of themes. Visitors of all ages will be thrilled!
You are invited to discover Electrium again or for the first time. Between June 25 and August 25 visitors can take part in a contest for a chance to win a trip for four people to James Bay. Rules are available at www.hydroquebec.com/visit.
See you there – it’s all free!
