The use of lighthouses on the seaboard dates back to antiquity. Quebec is home to some forty lighthouses, most of which are found on the shoreline. They were necessary for navigation, as they indicated the presence of a port or danger. There is a unique nature to visiting a lighthouse. First, you must climb many steps before getting to the top of the tower to see the mechanism in place and enjoy a magnificent view of an original landscape. Then, you can imagine what daily life was like for the lighthouse keepers who, day after day, ensured everything was working properly. On-site guides are always happy to share a vast array of information about a lighthouse’s history, its particularities, as well as different anecdotes. To make sure you don’t miss a thing, follow the Route des Phares, which promises an enthralling adventure.
