Interior and altar of St. Patrick's Basilica.

St. Patrick’s Basilica

The first English-speaking Catholic church in Montréal (1847), St. Patrick’s Basilica—often nicknamed “the Irish church”—features an elaborate Gothic-inspired décor enhanced by paintings, a finely carved pulpit and an impressive sanctuary lamp. The woodwork and stained-glass windows lend the entire space a sense of majesty and serenity. Notably, one of the bells, nicknamed Charlotte, was cast in 1774.
