Musée des Hospitalières de l’Hôtel-Dieu de Montréal

The Musée des Hospitalières de l’Hôtel-Dieu de Montréal, located at the foot of Mount Royal on Des Pins Avenue, takes visitors on a journey through time, tracing the story of Ville-Marie from the 17th to the 20th century. The museum explores the origins of Montréal and its Hôtel-Dieu hospital through the medical practices of past eras, as well as the history and mission of the Religious Hospitallers of Saint Joseph, who devoted themselves to caring for the sick. Heirloom furniture, paintings, sculptures, photographs, archival documents and medical instruments bear witness to this rich heritage. Guided tours of the museum can be arranged for school groups and groups of individuals with an interest in history and heritage. Tours of the monastery’s private garden and chapel are offered during the summer season.
