Musée des Hospitalières de l'Hôtel-Dieu de Montréal

Montréal
Museum

A museum, a garden, a chapel for you to discover the history of the origins of Montréal. The Musée des Hospitalières de l’Hôtel-Dieu de Montréal, located at the foot of Mount Royal on Pins Avenue, offers you a journey in time through the story of Ville-Marie from the 17th to the 20th century. This museum recounts the origins of Montréal and of Hôtel-Dieu through medical practices of the time and the history of the Religious Hospitallers of Saint Joseph and their mission of caring for the sick. Heirloom furniture, paintings, sculptures, photographs, archival documents, and medical devices bear witness to this rich history. Guided tours of the Museum can be booked for school groups and groups of adults with a passion for heritage. Tours of the monastery’s private garden and the chapel are scheduled during the summer season.
