This year, Chants de Vielles is launching the FAB Stage, a brand-new participatory space in the heart of the Jardin du Chevreuil. In addition to the local producers, food trucks, giant wooden boardgames, and the Espace Trad Famille already on site, you’ll find mini-concerts, jam sessions, introductory jig workshops, street performances, and 360-degree immersive experiences. Among other things, there will be “Street Jig” performances by the Mackinaw Company and a street performance by the Birdbone Theatre troupe. It’s the perfect spot for those who want to not only watch but also participate!

Riverside concerts for a unique ambience

The Chants de Vielles festival awaits you with a vibrant lineup, including a series of outdoor performances featuring local artists and musicians from countries around the world where folk music has its roots. Listen to the sound of guitars, banjos, violins and accordions and let yourself be swept away in an enchanting setting on the banks of the Richelieu River. Headliners include Édith Butler and Le Vent du Nord, who will kick off the festival on Friday evening. Over the weekend, you’ll also have the chance to discover Otone, from France, and the Mexican quartet Los Vega. And don’t miss the Quebec band Galant, tu perds ton temps, who will set the stage ablaze on Sunday.

Traditional dance and festive evenings

Once the sun goes down, the festivities continue well past dusk with a nighttime lineup. And since folk music is something you feel in your heart as well as your body, it’s also time to hit the dance floor: on Friday and Saturday nights, break out your best jig moves for an unforgettable evening where traditional Québécois and European dances will be in the spotlight. A festive atmosphere, new discoveries and lots of smiles are guaranteed!

A place for families to play and have fun

Chants de Vielles is also designed with young festivalgoers and their families in mind. Starting early Friday evening, the Espace Trad Famille welcomes you to its tent for lively activities that combine play, creativity and musical exploration. At the Maison de la culture, entertaining shows transport kids into a magical world filled with folk music.

Since its inception, the festival has also stood out for its eco-friendly approach. Several green initiatives are in place, including the use of reusable tableware and the planting of trees to offset its carbon footprint.
