In the heart of Quebec’s Mauricie region, enjoy an interactive journey through the world of traditional loggers and the region’s rich forestry heritage.

Village du bûcheron
The Village du bûcheron (Loggers’ Village) in Mauricie is waiting for you on a summer trip to the area. Founded more than 45 years ago, this village has evolved since its opening, becoming Eastern Quebec’s most in-depth logging history interpretation centre. That makes this the perfect activity for your family to discover how the logging industry shaped Quebec’s development.
Discover a place packed with history
Stroll through the loggers’ village to discover the way of life of these men who lived in the heart of the forest at the beginning of colonization. Learn how wood was transported by flotation on the river in a process called “the drive,” and how raw material was transformed into lumber and paper.
This immersive visit, 1.5 to 2 hours long, plunges you right into the heart of Quebec’s history. As you visit the 24 buildings that make up the village, you will be able to observe antique tools and artefacts that offer a glimpse into daily life in that era.
After your visit, stop at the souvenir shop to bring home a piece of history and support local artisans.
Musical Thursdays
Feel like feasting to the sounds of good local music? Visit the Cookerie du Village du bûcheron (website in French only) to take advantage of the folksy atmosphere every Thursday night starting June 12. Both as a solo artist or with special guests, musician Baptiste Prud’homme performs traditional Québécois songs as well as originals to delight patrons!
What’s more, enjoy local flavours prepared on site by Les Soeurs Jack’s catering. Meals are offered as reasonably priced party platters. It’s the perfect way to spend a joyful and memorable moment with your loved ones.
A different kind of guided tour
Is an even more immersive experience what you’re looking for?
