Taking place in Saint-Antoine-sur-Richelieu on June 29 and 30 and July 1, 2018, Chants de Vielles will be welcoming about sixty exceptional singers and musicians hailing from Quebec, other parts of North America and Europe. For this 14th year, this festival of traditional, folk and acoustic music centred on the hurdy-gurdy proposes fulfilling experiences steeped in creativity and open-mindedness.

Evening concerts

The festival kicks off on Friday night with the all-female Swedish vocal quartet Kongero, followed by a group from Lanaudière, Hommage aux aînés, and the French group Super Parquet, with their surprising brand of psychedelic, mind-blowing dance music.

Saturday promises to be unforgettable. The line-up features Pylawak, Les Poules à Colin and a performance of traditional music by SOLO in collaboration with Le Vent du Nord and De Temps Antan.

The closing show on Sunday will present the new show from Fanfare Montfarleau with covers of popular Quebec songs from the 50s and 60s. That performance will be followed by the French trio Tondo and by Molsky’s Mountain Drifters, already on tour in the U.S., who will be in Quebec to give a one-of-a-kind concert.

Lots of things for kids!

Children are front and center at the festivities. Introductory music workshops and a number of special shows make it easy for parents to include their little ones in the festival. The program of activities for young audiences is just as rich and diverse as the regular festival offerings. New this year: a pre-festival music camp is offered for children on Friday June 29. Sunday in the country

Have a nice, relaxing Sunday at the festival with a singing stroll, a church concert, a countryside banquet and spitfire roast, a dragon boat ride filled with song and a parade. All of these activities give the Chants de Vielles festival its unique ambience and transform the village of Saint-Antoine-sur-Richelieu into a place of sharing and celebration!
