August 3 to 7, 2016, dust off your tricorn and step back in time to 17th-and 18th-century America. The New France Festival, this emblematic Quebec City event, has been held for 20 years now and will take place this year at the Fortifications of Québec National Historic Site in the Artillery Park. This new enchanting location aims to immerse festival-goers in what daily life was like at the time. With around 400 activities to do on site, this festival is a trip into yesteryear.

20 years is worth celebrating… with music!

With its theme, Imagine the Americas, the 20th New France Festival will be an opportunity to celebrate during large festive gatherings in the evenings at the magnificent Artillery Park, where the rich architectural and historical elements will put you in the ambience of the old times. You can expect traditional music, First Nations’ music, paramilitary music and many other genres throughout the festival. There will even be a show of pop folk starring the charming Sally Folk on Thursday August 4. Get ready to dance!

The New France Festival is also an event where you can discover foods inspired by recipes that would have been used during colonial times. Each day will feature a grand barbecue of sizzling grilled foodstuffs inspired by the traditions of the Huron-Wendat Nation, the Celts and the Acadians. Simply tantalizing! The fan-favourite Gourmet Market will also be back this year. On August 5, celebrate Francophonie Day by popping by Acadia for some lobster rolls.

Something from another world!

The historical reenactments set up here and there around the site are key features at the event that help create the festival’s unbelievable atmosphere. Add to that: workshops to take part in, period trades to try out, arts demonstrations and many other activities and you’ll be catapulted to New France in a fantastic fanfare!
