Kilometres of wilderness await

Fill up on gas, put together a great playlist and create your own road trip by discovering one or all five of the region’s territories. For example, you can soak up the wild beauty around Rouyn-Noranda at Parc national d’Aiguebelle. For gloomy days, the area also has plenty of indoor attractions for you to visit. Go back in time at Magasin général Dumulon, a general store where you can buy local products. Culture lovers will love the Musée d’art de Rouyn-Noranda, the northernmost art museum in Quebec, and sports enthusiasts will stop by Mudra Espace sportif. This new fitness centre concept offers boulder climbing, yoga and spinning.

From natural resources to comedy shows

One of the region’s must-do experiences is Anisipi, a water-discovery route where you can learn more about the benefits of this natural resource. The route includes four immersive experiences created by Moment Factory, one of which provides an exceptional ending to a visit of Refuge Pageau, a sanctuary that shelters injured, sick or orphaned wildlife. Enjoy it all day before heading in for a night at Hôtel Econo-One in Amos. The mining history is also very present in the region. To experience it, descend 91 metres underground at Cité de l’Or, visit the Canadian Malartic open-pit mine and then stop by the Musée minéralogique de Malartic, which is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year. Speaking of anniversaries, the Festival d’humour de l’Abitibi-Témiscamingue is turning 25 this year! Book a room at the nearby Quality Inn & Suites Val-d’Or so you can laugh and enjoy the comedy shows under a starry sky.
