This summer take a breath of fresh air in the Vallée-de-la-Gatineau in the Outaouais region. Plan a vacation that is 100% outdoors around the islet-filled lakes and green mountains that compose the perfect playground of hidden little treasures. Get ready for discoveries and adventure in areas you’ve yet to explore.
Start your getaway with a night at Auberge Majopial, a recreational tourist village near Thirty-One-Mile Lake. Choose from the suites at the inn, the chalets or even camping on an island. This is an exceptional way to rekindle with nature. On site, the Pôle d’excellence en récréotourisme Outaouais is a place where you can rent canoes and kayaks as well as try out yoga on a paddle board. At the end of your day outdoors, have a meal at l’Huile d’Olive, the French bistro by the lake.
Your adventure continues in the mountain as you hike along the marked trails of Parc régional du Mont Morissette. At the top, an 18-metre (59-foot) observation tower invites you to be amazed by the stunning view of a dozen lakes. Interpretation panels and a heritage fire tower explain the history of forest fire watching. If you like seeing things from up high, Mont Cayamant also has an observation tower. Will you be able to climb the 688 steps that bring you to the top?
In Maniwaki, fill up on energy at Auberge du Draveur, where two saunas and an indoor pool await. Wake up refreshed and head out on the Véloroute des Draveurs, a bike path set up on an old railroad. Every 5 km (3 mi.) there are picnic areas and outhouses. This circuit will bring you to see a thousand-and-one landscapes, including those around the magnificent Blue Sea Lake.
This summer Vallée-de-la-Gatineau is your next outdoor vacation destination!
