Located in Amos, this shelter has been caring for orphaned, sick or injured animals for more than 30 years, releasing them back into the wild when possible. In the Rouyn-Noranda area, Parc-Aventure Joannès is a park designed for travellers looking for thrills. Catch a ride on a zipline at the Arbre en Arbre treetop course and enjoy a host of other family activities, such as the giant maze, the obstacle course or the miniature golf course in the forest, not to mention hiking and mountain biking.

Fill up on stories and discoveries

If you find yourself in the Duhamel-Ouest area, visit the surprising Obadjiwan–Fort Témiscamingue National Historic Site, where you’ll discover not only a trading post, an enchanting forest and a beach along the shore of a 110-km lake, but you’ll also learn about 6,000 years of Indigenous history and two centuries of rivalry for control of the fur trade.

Release your inner geologist by heading to Malartic, home of the Abitibi-Témiscamingue Mineralogical Museum. This museum presents an astonishing collection of minerals from all over the world and includes interactive games, an earthquake simulator, amazing samples of gold. And visitors of all ages are sure to be impressed by the fluorescent minerals!

Make the most of your trip by visiting the old rural school in Authier. This typical one-room school taught students from 1937 to 1958 and is an excellent example of what teaching establishments looked like in Quebec at the time and the type of teaching materials they used.
