Foodies, rejoice! It’s the perfect time of year for a getaway that caters to your taste buds. With fall just around the corner, the Eastern Townships welcome you to celebrate the grape harvest and learn more about wine-making and local foods. Meet wine-growers, take part in a number of activities and see how the simple act of eating can turn into a party!

It’s time to harvest in the vineyards

22 vineyards on the Brome-Missisquoi Wine Route will be opening their doors to share the fruits of their labour. Attend a wine-tasting event, sample locally grown products, help with the grape harvest itself or take a guided tour of the wine-making facilities. Make the most of your visit on this circuit to indulge in a picnic or go for a stroll or a bike ride.

Foodie events to suit any taste

Wherever you find yourself in the Eastern Townships, there’s a food-themed festival you’ll love nearby. There’s the Comptonales, September 23 and 24, for a foray into local gastronomy as you follow a country circuit with eight halts connected by a free shuttle. If you have a soft spot for duck, a trip to the Brome Lake Duck Festival, happening on the same days, is sure to satisfy. Do you feel more like going to a county fair? The Brome Fair September 1 to 4 spotlights the flavours of the region and farm animals, whereas in Richmond, September 7 to 10, the fair has free rides, music, dancing and animal judging contests.

Remember the Fête des vendanges Magog-Orford

This festival of wine and fine food takes place over the next two weekends - September 2, 3, 4, 9 and 10. This is a can’t-miss get-together for amateurs of cooking and local ingredients. Expect discoveries, tastings, exhibitors, culinary demonstrations by top chefs, terroir favourites and activities for the whole family.
