Yurt at Bolton Falls Spa
When cold fall temperatures begin to fill the air, many people turn to indoor activities for relaxation. I personally choose another way to get some R & R, one that lets me take advantage of the joys of the outdoors… Nordic spas. Some time ago, I had visited Bolton Falls Spa in the Eastern Townships, a peaceful location featuring many original ways to relax in an enchanting decor. With the colours of fall as a backdrop and the invigorating natural air as a bonus, I had everything I needed for a pleasant day outside.

Ever Heard of Savusauna?

The Nordic spa concept is based on alternating between hot and cold, which invigorates the body and leaves you with a feeling of pure comfort. The Bolton Falls Spa provides its guests with several options to make the most of this relaxing experience, including the savusauna. The “savusauna,” is a one-of-a-kind sauna in North America. It is a smoke sauna without a chimney where smoke fills the room while the rocks heat up. It leaves a pleasant smell during your time in the sauna. Even if it may be slightly uncomfortable to breathe, only a few minutes are needed to take full advantage of the experience as you enjoy the delightful aroma of wood fire wafting around the room.

Bolton Falls

I very much appreciated the eucalyptus bath, with its high level of air humidity and extraordinary smell which left me completely relaxed. Following a short ten-minute session of heat and humidity, I found the courage to slip into the cold river. Only a few seconds are needed for the beneficial effects of the temperature change to take place. Then, to help my body recuperate from this small “shock,” I relaxed in the outdoor spa while admiring autumn’s colours to the sound of the falls nearby. I also could have opted for one of the different massages offered in the yurts located near the river.

My Restaurant Suggestion!

For a fantastic finish, I went to an excellent little restaurant in Eastman, a few minutes from the spa. The Café Bistro Chez Jules has a varied menu that changes every two weeks and an affordable wine selection. The duck confit is particularly delicious!
