Science, art and culture meet at at the Musée minéralogique et minier de Thetford Mines in the Chaudière-Appalaches region. Open all year, this museum features two permanent exhibitions which covers the history and geology of the Appalachians and minerals from all over the world. Keep an eye out for the museum’s temporary exhibitions with tantalizing themes. In the summer season, visit the heritage mine, see old mining buildings and the site of the first Quebec mines where what is locally known as “cotton rock” was discovered. You will get a view of the open mines and their breathtaking views. You’ll also get a chance to stop and gather typical regional rocks.
