Expecting an American assault on Québec City, British authorities ordered the construction of a chain of three separate forts from 1865 to 1872 on the south shore of the St. Lawrence River as part of Québec fortifications. Magnificently restored by Parks Canada, Fort No. 1 is the last remaining fort from this line of defense. It illustrates entirely remarkable technical innovations for the time. Come on in!
