Contact Nature – Okwari Le Fjord also offers creative activities inspired by traditional Indigenous knowledge. Using raw materials found in nature, such as stones, wood and bark, you’ll learn how to make all kinds of practical and symbolic objects. These fascinating workshops are also a great way to learn about the unique artistry and talents of Indigenous people.

Observe the black bear—a truly marvellous animal!

Accompanied by a guide, you’ll learn more about the boreal forest during this stimulating activity. Start off your afternoon with a bear-watching activity where you’ll observe black bears (“Okwari” in Mohawk) in their natural habitat from a watchtower, built specifically for this purpose, all with the greatest respect for the animals. It’s a must for wildlife lovers!

All depending on which day you visit the site, you’ll be able to participate in an additional interpretive activity that will help you better understand the environment that black bears live in.

1. Rabaska outing: Row in sync with your fellow passengers during this unique activity in the great outdoors. This long canoe, once used by settlers to access the hinterland, will take visitors on a tour of Lac Côme and its surroundings.

2. Plant and animal life discovery: Accompanied by a biologist guide, you’ll explore the plant world, all the while understanding the roles of plants and how they are connected, as well as the relationship between plants and animals.

3. Edible and medicinal plants: The many natural resources found in the boreal forest are used to feed us and heal our wounds. This activity is an opportunity to get to know these resources and how we can help preserve them.

Go on a three-hour sea kayaking excursion in La Baie des Ha! Ha!, where the first settlers arrived in 1838. You can even go on a two-hour kayaking excursion at dusk! Located at the gateway to the Saguenay Fjord, this bay is brimming with history and stories ready to be told by passionate guide-interpreters. Whether you’re with friends, family, or on your own, experience an adventure filled with breathtaking views!
