The Mangeons local open-house event organized by the Union des producteurs agricoles (UPA) is back after a two-year hiatus, with a brand new format that allows farms to open their doors at the time when their produce is in season. Participating Quebec farms, located in all regions of the province, will be opening to visitors between mid-July and mid-September. To find out the schedule of events, see the calendar of free activities and reserve your spots directly on the Mangeons local app.
Do you want to better understand the process of how food ends up at the grocery store and all the way onto your plate? This open-house event is your opportunity to do just that while learning about the challenges faced by those in the agricultural industry. In addition, you and your family will enjoy the various festive activities, which will vary depending on the farm you’ll be visiting. On the menu: animal-watching, workshops, entertainment, picking-your-own fruits and vegetables and tastings of local products. You’ll even have the unique opportunity to visit farms that are not usually open to the public, such as dairy or animal farms.
The UPA invites you to visit more than one farm in order to discover diverse productions and the work of the people behind the food we eat. This will allow you to learn more about the specifics of different regions while making the most of summer and visiting new places in Quebec. What could be better! In addition, you can stock up on delicious local products and learn new ways to grow them, prepare them and keep them fresher longer. Finally, a visit to a farm can also raise your awareness of the value of food produced in Quebec by revealing the efforts made by agricultural producers to protect the environment and ensure the well-being of their animals.
