The Duplessis region’s forests spread out as far as the eye can see, along with a shoreline cut across by powerful rivers, between Labrador and the Gulf of St. Lawrence. With its infinite spread of sandy beaches, the area stretches out from the shore with a thousand islands and islets. With its rich maritime and native heritage, Duplessis is also a meeting place for whales. The Mingan Archipelago exhibits gargantuan monoliths that house several species of birds. At sea, Anticosti Island stands guard and shelters some 166,000 white-tailed deer. In Natashquan, the road comes to an end before the immensity of the Basse-Côte-Nord, which may be discovered by boat or by plane. Further north, the kingdom of the caribou and the Groulx Mountains give the word “immense” all its meaning. The Gulf of St. Lawrence is a true feeding ground for minke, fin, humpback and blue whales, as well as for dolphins, seals and porpoises.
