Its waters, known for their rich biodiversity, are home to 13 species of cetaceans, including the famous blue whale, the largest animal on the planet. Whether you choose a cruise or you prefer to watch from the shore, there are many opportunities to discover the fascinating world of these graceful creatures. Throughout your stay, migratory birds and land mammals, such as black bears, will also fuel your love for this region!

An extraordinary experience on the water or on land

You may be surprised to know that September and October are the best months of the year to observe a high concentration of whales in the Côte-Nord region.

As the flamboyant colours of fall adorn the shore, these marine giants come to life in a spectacular ballet. Embark on a truly magical whale-watching experience thanks to departures of boats and Zodiac cruises offered from Tadoussac, Havre-Saint-Pierre, Les Escoumins and Sept-Îles. And if you prefer to keep your feet on the ground, Route 138 is lined with remarkable land observation sites and places to admire the famous Saguenay–St. Lawrence Marine Park.

Combine a whale-watching cruise with accommodations

With a variety of whale-watching cruise packages combining observation cruises and accommodation, you can choose between a boat or Zodiac and enjoy the presence of marine mammals longer!

These packages also invite you to explore other gems of the Côte-Nord region, that highlight its rich wildlife and outdoor activities. In addition, the accommodation options offered are varied and will allow you to enjoy a stay close to the cruise departure points, right in the heart of the action.

Birds and bears: even more fascinating animals to discover

Visiting the Côte-Nord region in the fall also means accommodations are generally more affordable, the pace is slower and the magnificent natural landscape is even most beautiful!

Take the opportunity to explore the national parks and outdoor sites, keeping in mind that it is important to be careful in the forest during the fall season: wear an orange hunting safety vest, make noise to signal your presence, and be aware of hunting areas.

You could also try a black bear watching activity at Ferme 5 Étoiles or Domaine de l'Ours noir, or check out the Côte-Nord Migratory Bird Festival, from September 15 to 21, 2025, in Tadoussac, for a unique immersion into the world of bird-watching!
