A true gem of Maskoutain architecture, Saint-Hyacinthe’s public market, 1555 Marché public, awaits in the heart of downtown. This veteran Quebec market has been impressing foodies and highlighting products from the region since 1830.

Inside, make some notable discoveries like a cheese shop, a fruit shop, a fishmonger and a butcher shop offering fresh ingredients and a friendly atmosphere. In line with the seasons, the market comes to life outdoors too with dozens of local and visiting producers, without forgetting a contemporary art centre to explore right on site.

Set off to discover fascinating birds of prey

Did you know that 27 species of birds of prey are found in Quebec, and they’re all protected? To see many of them up close, make your way to Chouette à voir!, in Saint-Jude, where the Quebec Union for the Rehabilitation of Birds of Prey (or UQROP in French) cares for them and re-releases them into the wild when possible.

Beyond encountering some 20 species through presentations of birds in flight, at the rehabilitation centre and the large aviaries, you can explore landscaped paths right in nature. You’ll learn to recognize the birds by their silhouette or their call, all while you also discover local flora. What’s more, a new interpretation centre will allow site access throughout the year!
