Quebec’s forests are home to many different kinds of animals that can be observed with a little patience and care. The white-tailed deer, representative of Quebec’s fauna, can be seen in almost all of Quebec’s regions, but the largest number of them are found on Anticosti Island. Caribou live primarily on the territories covered by James Bay and Nunavik, but this majestic animal can also be observed in a few of Quebec’s national parks. Moose, the largest of the Cervidae, also frequent the forests of some national parks, as well as the Réserve faunique de Matane (Matane Wildlife Reserve), where the largest concentration of them in Quebec is found. The black bear and the beaver are often the stars of organized wildlife watching activities in the forest. Of course, this is just a quick look at some of the animals that may be seen, as Quebec’s vastness promises many other beautiful wildlife encounters!
