Let yourself be whisked away to Egypt at Horizon of Khufu, the all new immersive virtual reality experience presented by the Phi Centre. From Old Montreal’s Quai King-Edward, near the Montréal Science Centre, this journey into the past will transport you to the heart of one of the seven wonders of the ancient world: the Great Pyramid of Giza, a monumental archeological treasure and a testament to Egyptian architectural genius!

Introducing a new kind of exhibit

After leaving 200,000 explorers awestruck in Paris, London and Shanghai, Horizon of Khufu is making its big Montreal debut. This immersive experience invites you to discover the majestic Great Pyramid, constructed over 4,500 years ago. It is one of the three famous Pyramids of Giza and the last remaining wonder of the ancient world. What’s more, it was the tallest human-made structure in the world for almost four millenia, until the construction of the Eiffel tower in 1889.

A road map of the experience

During the first half of the presentation, you will wear a virtual reality headset allowing you to move around freely with your friends or family. You will be represented by avatars, allowing you to locate each other easily during your visit. Audio and visual elements will make your senses believe you’re there in person. You will travel inside the pyramid, where you will be able to move around in its ancient galleries and burial chambers. Next, you will climb to its summit, earning an unrestricted view over the Giza Plateau and Cairo.

The second part of the exhibit will bring you back to sea level, where you will attend the mummification and burial of Pharaoh Khufu, and then board a vessel down the Nile to observe the conclusion of the funeral ritual. A striking journey to the heart of Egyptian culture that promises a multitude of emotions!
