An irresistible cultural destination in the heart of the Plains of Abraham, the Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec (MNBAQ) invites you to fall under the spell of its magnificent collection of Quebec art, which includes over 42,000 works. The museum also regularly hosts international exhibitions and offers a wide range of cultural activities for all audiences. The bookstore and the menu of the Café Québecor par Laurent Godbout also promise great discoveries! Here’s what awaits you during your day at the museum.

Contemporary art at the Pierre Lassonde Pavilion

Begin your visit at the Pierre Lassonde Pavilion and discover Quebec’s contemporary art. Admire an amazing panorama of works created from 1960 to the present day by major figures. Learn more about the objects that surround you thanks to the design and decorative art of Quebec. Contemplate the Tribute to Rosa Luxemburg, a monumental fresco more than 40 metres long by Jean Paul Riopelle, in all its glory. End your journey in this section of the MNBAQ by exploring its rich collection of Inuit art, the fourth largest in Canada.

The featured exhibition: Evergon. Theatres of the Intimate

Presented until April 23, 2023, Evergon. Theatres of the Intimate is a not-to-be-missed exhibition that invites you into a burlesque and fleshy universe. Over five decades, this Canadian photographer has revisited the genres of portraits, landscapes and nudes, creating bold and irreverent imagery. The exhibit features more than 230 works, including photographs, giant Polaroids and holographs, brought together for the first time to illustrate the artist’s colourful character. Visitors be warned: certain images may not shock you!

Beyond the exhibitions themselves

Round out your visit by exploring the Librairie-Boutique, which is a true showcase of Quebec creation with the largest collection of art books in Quebec. Then, stop by the Café Québecor by Laurent Godbout, which offers culinary creations that play with flavours, textures and colours. The menu changes with the seasons and ingredients available, and even follows the themes of the museum's programming, carrying the exhibition over to your plate!
