When you visit Quebec’s first bee interpretation centre, located in Stoke in the Eastern Townships, you are plunged head first into the wonders of the apiary world! Miellerie Lune de Miel is a honey farm that offers educational visits that will pique the whole family’s interest. This immersive experience gives you a chance to understand the life of bees, essential to the planet’s ecosystems, and to learn more about the production of honey. At Miellerie Lune de Miel, it’s all about the bees. It’s a love story more than 40 years in the making!

What is pollination?

Plants must be pollinated to reproduce: 80% of plant species worldwide and 35% of agricultural production depend on insects. The pollinators making the biggest impact are bumblebees and domestic and indigenous bees. Nectar and pollen are produced by flowers, which attract and nourish these insects. Pollen grains from the stamen (the male part of the plant) stick to the bees' furry bodies. Flitting from flower to flower, these insects drop the pollen grains onto the stigmas (the female part of the plant). As a result, ripe seeds grow, producing young plants or fruits. Surplus pollen is returned to the nest to feed the bees’ eggs and larvae. That’s why it's so important to protect pollinators.
