From its amazing location in the museum district, in the heart of downtown, the Musée des beaux-arts de Sherbrooke (MBAS) strives to preserve and promote the riches of Quebec and the Eastern Townships’ fine arts. With its wide range of programs, exhibits and activities for the whole family, the MBAS is your invitation on a journey to the very heart of visual arts and artistic creation. Here are two must-see exhibitions and one outstanding creative workshop not to be missed this summer!

An exhibit highlighting inspiring women

Until September 3, 2023, the exhibit What Would We Be? invites you to discover pioneering women in all fields. These honorees worked in their communities and each made an impact, whether on a small or grand scale. Painter and collage artist Adèle Blais uses her talents and her colourful pop aesthetic to serve the memory of these inspiring women, from Thérèse Casgrain to Josephine Baker, Eva Tanguay and Clementine Churchill. Throughout the exhibit, in the shattered fragments of the artist’s collages, you will also learn about women from the Eastern Townships who are breaking new ground.

When traditional trades meet contemporary art

The MBAS is incredibly proud to present Vibrations on Fibres 23, a major retrospective produced by the MUMAQ–Musée des métiers d’art du Québec. This museum covers 45 years of artist and weaver Paulette-Marie Sauvé’s artistic works and presents tapestries representative of different periods of her career. Certain works are centrally inspired by nature and country life in Calixa-Lavallée, Sauvé’s adopted village. On display until September 3, 2023, this exhibit will immerse you in the creative universe of this remarkable artist who takes her place among the new leaders of tapestry weaving in Quebec.

Creativity in the great outdoors–the perfect mix!

De la passerelle au Musée, one of the Museum’s creative workshops in visual arts, is making a comeback this summer, all the way until August 29, 2023. Let your creativity run wild and be a part of this unusual exercise in observation and sketch, inspired by a landscape featured in the Musée des beaux-arts de Sherbrooke collection. The activity begins on the walkway that looms over the mouth of the Magog river, on the edges of the museum grounds, and ends in the educational workshop. Charcoal stick in hand, take part in an outdoor creation activity that is truly something else!
