Marvel at the tigers, camels and red pandas that sport beautiful coats in the winter, then stop off at one of the 10 pavilions to admire elephants, giraffes, tropical fish and more. You’ll also meet new residents and chat with experts who have plenty of secrets to tell you about the Zoo’s animals!

A chance to see magnificent Asian wild dogs

Have you ever heard of dholes? These wonderful canines are newcomers to the Granby Zoo, where you can observe them in a habitat that recreates the magic of their Nepalese environment. The adult population of this endangered species is estimated at less than 2,500 individual animals in the wild. Dholes have lost almost 75% of their original range, mainly due to a decline in numbers of prey. The Zoo is committed to taking part in conservation efforts for this unique species, along with American and European zoological institutions.

Animal discoveries that make for a fascinating winter

As you make your way through the zoo, you’ll be able to take part in all kinds of activities that are fun for the whole family. Meet animal care specialists and watch the animals receive their enrichments. It’s a wonderful opportunity to learn more about what it’s like to work with the Amur tigers and red pandas. Photo panels throughout the site promise lasting memories of your visit. In the heart of the Winter Village, you can relax by the fireplace while the kids enjoy the slides. And if the weather’s nice, why not try a camel or pony ride?

Meet species who like either cold or warm climates

Among the Zoo’s nearly 1,400 species, there are animals that love the snow... and others that are more comfortable in warm temperatures! In winter, you can see both kinds of animals. Several species, including the snow leopard, Japanese macaque and Bactrian camel, are perfectly adapted to sub-zero temperatures. As for the heat-seekers, a dozen indoor pavilions provide shelter. That means you can see rhinoceroses, hippopotamuses and multicoloured parrots, among others, who will welcome you warmly!
