Presented exclusively in Canada at the Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec (MNBAQ), this international exhibition titled Picasso. Figures shown until September 12, 2021, reveals works painted and drawn by the artist that have never been presented in Québec City. Discover how each of these masterpieces celebrates the beauty of singular bodies in an exceptional way. The human body in all its forms Picasso. Figures explores the representation of the human body in its multiplicity. It invites visitors to be moved by the beauty of the extraordinary. Based on the remarkable collection of the Musée national Picasso-Paris and in collaboration with the Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec, this new exhibition features a selection of 76 works, including 47 major paintings, produced between 1895 and 1972. The exhibit is structured around six themes and is a journey through more than seventy-five years of artistic production. Picasso’s masterpieces displayed Picasso. Figures consists primarily of paintings, drawings and prints, ranging from his formative years to the final paintings of his last period. It also includes a remarkable group of sculptures that remind us of the multidisciplinary dimension of this eternal explorer. Among the masterpieces assembled, we should mention Man with a Guitar (1911), Bathers (1918), Large Nude on a Red Armchair (1929), The Acrobat (1930) and Luncheon on the Grass, after Manet (1960). These masterful paintings represent the best periods of the artist's career. Picasso disregarded the dictates of the aesthetic canons associated with the representation of the human figure, a philosophy that allows the MNBAQ to offer a pertinent and considerate reflection on body diversity. Opening the Dialogue is an invitation to look beyond physical ideals using works from the MNBAQ's collection and those of invited artists as examples. The works presented break down gender stereotypes, speak out about grossophobia, and explore the representation of non-normed bodies. The ticket for the Picasso.
