La présence, autrefois, de nombreux rosiers sauvages sur le cap expliquerait l'origine du toponyme. C'est aussi de ce cap qu'un officier apreçut en 1759, la flotte de Wolfe, et dépêcha immédiatement un courrier vers Québec. Cet endroit témoin d'un nombre impressionnant de naufrages, est la porte d'entrée du parc national Forillon. Érigé en 1858, le phare du cap des Rosiers d'une hauteur de 37 mètres est le plus haut du pays et fût classé monument historique en 1977.
